How to Lower your Golf Handicap

There are thousands of golf instruction manuals out there, and each one promises they can help you improve your swing and lower your handicap.  Sure, you can learn how to drive the ball further, hit the ball where you want it to go, avoid traps, and get your ball into the cup every time.  But the best way to improve your score is to lower your handicap!

Think about it.  A guy who can consistently drive 300 yards and shoots 100 won’t win.  Someone who can drive straight as an arrow but only 100 yards at a tiome will not win.  The only consistent winner is the one with the lower score at the end of the round.

So we’re going to look at three simple ways to lower your handicap, thus improving your overall score so you can be the winner while those other guys are scratching their heads wondering how you did it!

1. Change your Swing!

Ok, look.  The truth is you’re not as good as you should be, right?  Whatever you’re doing, it’s just not working, right?  So why keep doing it!  The definition of insanity is performing the same action over and over and expecting different results.  You need to be trying new things, because the old way just isn’t working.

2. Keep Things Simple

Don’t overthing things, don’t try to emulate those fancy swings you see on television.  A short backswing is going to be far more effective for you than one of those big dramatic arcs you see from Tiger Woods or John Daly!  You need to concentrate on timing, coordination, balance, and learning an effective, repeatable swing.  You can learn the fancy stuff after you master the basics!

3. Be Consistent

Once you learn your system, stick to it!  Practice makes perfect, as they say.  Learn the swing that is right for you and stick to it.  Perfect it.  Make it yours.  Consistency is key.
